This page will let you identify and locate all the currently available free editing packages that are on the market. This includes free versions of major packages, open source software, Mac based software (either bundled or separate), AVI editors and MPEG editors.

If you want information about DVD editing software (both decryption and encryption), then click this link.

If you want just those tools available for Linux, click here.

The links below will take you to the appropriate section. Each page has the details of a particular free video editor, along with a review of it (if available), links to other sites where you can download the software and connections to forum pages which will discuss this package if appropriate.

The art of video editing is one that has come down through the ages, from the days when editors used to stand and handle roles of unstable nitrate-based film in California, right down to current days when anyone with a moderately powerful PC can edit his or her own blockbuster in the comfort of their own home. Did you know, films such as '28 Days Later' were shot on prosumer grade camera and films such as 'O Brother, Where Art Thou?' were edited on Final Cut Pro - a Mac based editor.

One page to check out as well will be the link to 'Elephants Dream' , a film made completely with open source software, including an open source video editor. Or why not take a look at 'Big Buck Bunny', another film made with free tools

Remember that each of the links below sends you to a page where you will learn about the free video editor under discussion
