I'm the webmaster of Free Video Editing.com (amongst other sites)I started editing several years ago when I filmed some performances from my local Amateur Dramatics group. We used these as training aids and I discovered that editing was actually a really fun pastime. In fact I have been known to spend hours poring over footage trying to find the ideal take or the ideal edit point to make a sequence sparkle! This lead me to research the subject more clearly and this was the point at which I discovered some great books on the subject as well as learning tips and techniques such as montage, the Kuleshov effect and little items such as 'J' and 'L' cuts. The key problem was always the software, though. I did go out and purchase the full Adobe Production Studio suite (at great personal cost), and - although I think it is an excellent suite of software - I was always wondering if there was a cheaper way to get into the world of editing. That's when I started researching free video editing software. Initially there were not many tools out there, but over time the field has become wider and wider with some really great tools out there such as Blender. The good thing about this field is that it is ever expending. Every day I see something that I want to look into on your behalf. It might be a new tool, or a new technique but whatever it is I will take the time to investigate it and - if it's appropriate - add it to this site.
